A 375 unit rental complex is being planned for 821 McGill Rd across from the old TRU residences. The developer is reported to be Cross Developments who also built the 88 unit Summit Village complex at 1415 Summit Dr. "The development would include studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and will likely take five years to fully build out, Cross said." Reported by The Omega and Kamloops This Week.

its about 1.5 to 2 years out its concept is to create a mini village concept at TRU like what UBC offers of rental housing and restaurants and shops. AT this point the residential units will all be rentals.

Is TRU considered part of Southgate?

It depends. Some Kamloops neighbourhood lists have TRU defined as a separate neighbourhood and some include it in Southgate. The map at the top of this page excludes TRU, but we also don't see it listed as a separate neighbourhood. With the plans to have 3500 housing units at The Reach (all built on campus) and the new subdivision, Hudson's Ridge, just below the university, it does seem to make sense for TRU and the surrounding area to be defined as it's own neighbourhood.
