Hi Greg - great question. There are areas along the rivers throughout Kamloops which are in the floodplain. The floodplain is a standardized measurement from the Federal Government and is described as either a 20 year or 200 year floodplain level. These levels have undergone a significant overhaul to reflect climate change in the last few years but may not be updated at the regional level. If there is a specific property you want to know more about for its vulnerability to flooding the best place to start is the city of Kamloops My Map tool / property report system: https://www.kamloops.ca/city-services/maps-apps. When you click on a property it will give an option to look at the property report which states if the property is in the 20 or 200 year floodplain or not. Some areas such as Oak Hills had a history of flooding but since then there was a significant update to the dykes in the area which has mitigated that risk.
